You can find out more about Portiragnes Plage here. In the main local square "Place du Bicentaire" you will find all the necessary amenities: good restaurants, bars and various takeaways, there is also a small speciality shop with a range of local produce including a selection of wine straight from the barrel. You can even take your own clean empty bottle for a refill. In the second square there is a small supermarket "Chez Jo" which is open all year round. There is also a medical centre in the village of Portiragnes which is 3km away.

As you can see from some of the pictures Horse Riding, Bike Hire, Watersports it's all here. You can join in the fun of organised sporting activities eg pétanque(French bowls), football, roller blading, volleyball etc. A timetable of sportings events is posted daily in the main square of Portiragnes Plage during high season.

Locally there is the world heritage site of the Canal du Midi.

There are markets in every town where you can buy fruit & veg, honey, cheeses and saucissons. Stalls of clothes, pottery, leather goods, jewellery are to be found too. The markets in Portiragnes Plage are usually on Mondays at Carpark Tramontane, on Tuesdays at Tour du Guet and on Wednesday and Friday at the Seafront, but it's always best to confirm this at the Tourist Information Office

Markets Reasonably priced too!!

The beautiful city of Beziers is just 10 kms away. It is the unofficial capital of the largest wine-producing region in France. Although if it's caves and wine-tasting you're after you can do this just off the square in Portiragnes Plage or indeed call into any of the local vinyards and sample their produce.

If you want to fit in a round of golf, visit St Thomas golf club in Beziers. They cater for all levels of players.

In the medieval town of Pezanas labelled "Ville et métiers d'art" (town of arts and crafts) you'll find over 50 artisans who operate all year round organizing exhibitions, conferences and demonstrations. Lovely little town full of winding cobbled streets with shops full of antiques, arts and crafts.

The biggest rollercoaster in France can be found at Europark in Vias Plage, along with 3.5 hectares of fun and games.

For the more adventurous, you can sail, dive, water-ski, swim, and canoe along the crystal clear waters of the rivers Orb, Cesse and L'Herault.

In Cap d'Agde Aqualand watersports park is a great day out for all the family.

For another great day out, visit the African Safari park in Sigean (less than an hours drive away), I'd recommend it.

The medieval fortified city of Carcassonne has also been classified as a world heritage site.

The beautiful 13C cathedral in Narbonne is certainly worth a visit and there are a multitude of churches and historic sites- Roman remains in Nimes, the famous Pont du Gard; and stunning gorges, grottoes and canyons.
